The following procedures are not covered through OHIP and are considered cosmetic:
● Breast reduction performed solely for aesthetic purposes
● Breast lift without a substantial reduction in size (mastopexy)
● Liposuction
● Additional breast or nipple reshaping
Who Is a Candidate for Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction may be an option if you suffer from clinical macromastia AND experience significant symptoms related to larger breasts, such as:
● Chronic neck, shoulder, or back pain
● Skin irritation, rashes, or infections
● Discomfort during daily activities or exercise
Candidates should be in good overall health and able to safely undergo general anesthesia.
If medically indicated, this procedure may be eligible for insurance coverage. Each case is reviewed individually by the Ministry of Health, and eligibility can be discussed during your personal consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Does Dr. Alex Cooper Perform OHIP-Covered Breast Reduction?
Yes, Dr. Alex Cooper offers partially funded breast reduction surgery through OHIP.
If you meet the medical criteria and receive approval from the Ministry of Health, the reduction portion of the procedure is covered.
