Whether it is reconstructing a deformity following cancer or helping a patient to achieve a desired cosmetic result, she applies exceptional technical skills, with approachable, patient centred care. Dr. Alex’s goal is to achieve natural results that help her patients feel better in their own skin.

As a woman and new mother herself, she understands the importance of addressing the changes a woman’s body goes through during the many stages of their lives. Dr. Alex specializes in breast and body contouring surgery, including the mommy makeover.

Dr. Alex was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. At a young age she knew she wanted to be a physician and therefore applied to medical school directly from high school. She was accepted at the prestigious St. Andrews University in Scotland and was awarded a full scholarship. After 3 years at St. Andrews, Dr. Alex moved to the University of Edinburgh to complete her degree. She then went on to complete her 5 year Plastic Surgery residency at McMaster University, as one of only 2 international medical graduates to obtain positions within Canada. Dr. Alex also completed a 1 year fellowship in Breast Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery. Throughout her training, Dr. Alex received numerous awards for her outstanding clinical research and was recognized for her exceptional surgical skills.

Dr. Alex is a member of the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. She is an active participant with the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her three young children, cooking, keeping fit, and traveling.

Call me Dr. Jim

Dr. Jim is a highly skilled fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon. His years of experience as the sole craniofacial plastic surgeon in one of the busiest trauma hospitals in Ontario has provided him with the experience, knowledge and skills to obtain the best results for his patients. His approach to communication with his patients is friendly, interactive and open.

Dr. Jim is a proud transplanted Newfoundlander. He completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He then went on to graduate from the McMaster University Plastic Surgery program (where he met Dr. Alex!) and became certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2010. Dr. Jim then went on to receive a fellowship degree in maxillofacial surgery at McMaster. Following this he was recruited to work as a staff plastic surgeon at Ontario’s second busiest trauma hospital, the Hamilton General Hospital. In the following years he worked as a busy educator to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students as an Assistant Professor at McMaster University and was appointed clinical teaching unit director for the Hamilton General Hospital.

While performing the breadth of plastic surgery domains including complex burn surgery, Dr. Jim also had a focused practice in craniofacial and facial plastic surgery as well as abdominal reconstruction and the care of skin cancer patients. He was appointed as one of Ontario’s two Burn Unit Directors in 2016, where he has spearheaded the development of standardized guidelines for burn management and has been involved in international burn research.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon, and playing hockey.
